School History
The children from the 'Enrichment Groups' are working on researching, writing and publishing a school history as a book to be sold in the Autumn 2010. This is an exciting project - so please keep dropping by to check on our progress!
January 2010
The children in the Enrichment Groups have made a fantastic start with their investigation into the History and life of Buckden School!
Over the holidays, to put our research in historical context, they have been finding out about things that were happening during 1870's, 1880's 1890's and 1900's.. They have also been researching issues that were reported in the 1871 - 1932 logbook, including childhood illnesses which caused serious absences from school and Empire Day! We hope to have some of this work on the site very soon!
We have also found out that not everything changes! In January 1940, Buckden was in the grips of a very cold snap, like we are today. The Headmaster of the Boys School wrote:
"During the past fortnight the weather has been particularly cold. On Friday night last, temperatures as low as 26 - 28 degrees of frost were common locally. I have had the fire kept in all night in spite of black-out restrictions as it was not possible to keep the school sufficiently warm without."
