Talk homework

Name different objects around your house, their properties and why are made that way. (A window is made of glass as its transparent so you can see through it).

Abacus - The children can access this resource via the website and complete one game as their Mathematics homework. https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk

The children have their own log in details, these can be found in their reading diaries. The school code is kmm7 in the bottom box.

Reading

Please make sure you read at least three times a week and this is then recorded in the reading record book.

Within Mathematics, in our Arithmetic lessons, we have been looking at odd and even numbers. We found out that odd numbers have one block on the top and even numbers have two blocks on top and can balance a ball on the top! In our Maths lesson, we have been looking at taking away by putting the whole in our hands, hiding a part in one hand and then working out the missing part using part whole models and counting back! The children really enjoyed playing ‘hide my number’ on Thursday and could write a subtraction number sentence to show the part that was missing!

In English, we have started our new Power of Reading book, The Jolly Christmas Postman. So far we have story mapped the postman visiting the Four Bears Cottage, and on Thursday we decided whether Baby Bear should send Goldilocks a Christmas Card as she did so many things wrong on her visit to their house, including breaking Baby Bears Chair, sleeping in Baby Bear’s bead and even eating his porridge up! We wrote sentence to say whether Baby Bear should forgive Goldilocks or not, using the conjunction ‘because’ to give our reasons!

During Global learning, we have compared past and present photographs of Buckden Village and noticed lots of changes as well some photographs being in black and white. We also went outside and conducted a traffic survey, counting how many, cases, buses, lorries, vans and motorbikes passed us. We did a tally chart, and we coloured in a block graph to show how many of each type of vehicle we saw.

In Science, we have tested some materials and found out about their properties. We tested straws, spoons, elastic bands, the classroom tables to see if we could bend them – some were really bendy and others we couldn’t even budge! We talked about what materials the objects were made of and why they could bend/not bend.

We have started learning our Christmas carol ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ and we have even been using Makaton sign language to sign the words to the song whilst we sing!
