<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">Thank you to all the children for coming back to school with such positive attitudes and enthusiasm.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">We have been practising our place value knowledge in Maths and recapping coordinating conjunctions in English.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">We have spoken about the importance of practising our times tables and reading during the week.</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">In readiness for the Year 4 performance, we will be holding auditions next week.&nbsp; The children have been provided with a poem that they can read / recite during the auditions.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">A gentle reminder, from Monday 9th onwards, that all playtime snacks need to be either fruit or vegetables.&nbsp; Children can bring in other items in their lunch-boxes to be eaten at lunch time.</p>

	<link>https://www.buckdenschool.co.uk/blog/?pid=42&amp;nid=29&amp;storyid=2416</link>	<description><![CDATA[<p>This week, we completed our English CLPE book and discovered what happened to Chimwala once the slavers arrived in the village.&nbsp; The children wrote some engaging recounts about the villagers&#39; plan to hide from the slavers.</p>

<p>In Maths, we investigated the use of graphs and how the information given is similar to a story.&nbsp; We learnt how to plot the x and y-axis and how to decide the value of each interval.</p>

<p>We have completed our DT project and sewed our patterns onto the wallets / purses.&nbsp; We used a button as a fastening to keep the items inside safe.</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">This week in year 4, we have been scientifically busy! Monday through to Thursday the whole year group took part in three full science days! From creating an experiment to see how the material of a craft mouse could impact its distance of flight, to creating a human classification key to help people identify the 8 most common bumble bees found in England. Ivy, Hugo and Isla (P) impressed the head of Science when they worked together to role play in a video to test out our classification key that was made up by the rest of year four!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">We have completed the Year 4 multiplication tests.&nbsp; When the results are released we will pass them onto yourselves.</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">In English and History, we have been learning about the Windrush era and imagining how it must have felt being on the HMT EMpire Windrush ship.</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">In Maths, we are starting to learn angles.&nbsp; Ask us about acute, right, straight and obtuse angles.</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">In DT, we made delicious kibbeh (Syrian meatballs).&nbsp; The children learnt some health and safety skills and were very capable at chopping and slicing.</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">We finished our class- reader, The Wolf&#39;s Footprint in class.&nbsp; Please ask the children about their view on the ending.</p>

<p>We have started our new English CLPE book where&nbsp;we have discussed the characters of Elka and Daw.&nbsp; We have inferred from the story so far that Elka is a mature and caring sister whilst Daw is younger and needs more help.</p>

<p>In Science, we are learning about electricity and the different types of renewable energy.</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">We learnt&nbsp;the Romans left Britain to defend other parts of their empire and many of the buildings were left to decay after their departure.</p>

<p style="margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm">For World Book day, we visited Usborne book stand&nbsp;and wrote down our wish list where our &pound;1 gift voucher could be used to contribute to purchasing.&nbsp; A big thanks to the PTA for delivering us some delicious hot chocolate today.</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">In PE, we are using our knowledge from our history unit on the Celts to produce a dance around their conflict with the Romans.</p>

<p class="ocular-col ocular-font">In Geography, we have learnt about inequality and how it can impact people.</p>

<p>Our week has been dominated by our amazing Roman Day.&nbsp; Thank you to all parents and carers for the fabulous costumes.&nbsp; The children visited a Roman town and experienced the amphitheatre, the baths, the aqueducts, training in a Roman army and eventually at the market we tasted olives, balsamic vinegar, grapes and flat bread.&nbsp; A special thanks to Florence and her mum for supplying us with an bread made using an authenic recipe.&nbsp; It was a delicious treat!</p>

<p>TT Rockstars - keep practising!</p>

<p>Reading - 20 minutes a day to yourself, to someone else, to your pet.</p>

<p>This week, we walked down to the Marina and looked at the river nearby.&nbsp; We show many features and show lots of physical and human features on our walk.</p>

<p>In DT, we have made pulleys to help as understand how the Romans were able to build their powerful empire.</p>

<p>Roman Day is on Wednesday 7th. It&nbsp;will be a fun day to explore&nbsp;the lifestyle of the Romans.&nbsp;&nbsp;It would be great if you could help the children dress in Romanesqe clothing. Please&nbsp;do not buy anything new,&nbsp;a T-shirt with a scarf will be super.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Our work on the water cycle this week involved creating our own water cycle and concluded with a&nbsp;practical session with&nbsp;Anglian Water where we made our own sewage.</p>

<p>We have experienced the fighting skills of the Roman Army as opposed to that of the barbarians and how it was not a fair fight.</p>

<p>Talk homework: Thinking back to our practical model of the digestive system, can you name all seven parts of the digestive system we learnt about and what each part does.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reading: Please take the time to participate in reading to an adult for a recommended 5 minutes a day. &nbsp;</p>

<p>We have had fun in Science, watching a piece of weetabix going through the digestive system.</p>

<p><strong>Talk homework</strong> - Explain to your adults / family what we have been doing in Maths - how we find the quotient to division questions that involve a large dividend, e.g. 54 divided by 3.</p>

<p>We also handed back some assessment papers.&nbsp;The children have circled a question that they have been taught, and it would be great if you could spend some time going over it together.&nbsp;There are some elements of the paper that we have not taught and will be teaching soon.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In Year 4, we have been debating if our main protagonist, Chaya, is right to steal in order to help others.</p>

<p>We had fun in Geography, where we drew on satsumas to show the lines of latitude and longitude. We also discussed the location of the Equator&nbsp;and the Prime Meridian.</p>

<p>In Science,&nbsp;we have been observing eggs&nbsp;that represented our teeth in different liquids over the past few days. We took them out of the liquid to find out how they had changed.&nbsp;Tell your adult / family what happened to each one!</p>

<p>In English, we wrote a piece of writing filled with fronted adverbial, expanded noun phrases and exciting vocabulary about the video we watched on Literacy Shed - Hunted.</p>

<p>Today, we evaluated our DT project, which was the interactive active factsheet.</p>
