In the eyes of God, every child matters, every moment of every day

Spellings this week: calmly, exactly, deadly, boldly, gladly, clearly, hourly.

TT Rockstars for 20 minutes three times a week.

Reading 20 minutes a day with book discussion.

We've continued our exploration of 'Why the whales came' this week in English. The children completed their independent writing of a letter to the Birdman and really impressed us with their ability to recall details from the story. They were also able to empathise with how the characters in the book would have been feeling and made this clear in their writing. We've also looked at setting descriptions and have written descriptive sentences on the inside of the Birdmans' cottage. The children particularly enjoyed our lesson, exploring what life might be like for the Birdman, where we drew bird sketches and only communicated through written notes.

In Maths, we have continued our exploration of the eight times tables and the children have completed both multiplications and divisions within the timetable. Now we have also moved on to multiplying two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers; both with and without exchanges. Considering how daunting these calculations can look, the children have taken to it really well.

In History, we continued looking into the life of James Cook and made a timeline of his life by making notes from a video all about his adventures. Both classes made some brilliant notes and were really engaging. Maybe we will have some explorers of our own in the future!

Science this week consisted of the children completing a science test to track their knowledge and understanding gained so far. The test involved subjects both from this year and previous ones. All children did very well indeed and should be proud of their achievements.

Excitingly, this afternoon we have continued devising our play! We have even started experimenting with different castings and are really trying to find a way in which to highlight each child's talents! Please note that casting is not final, however, and we have warned the children the parts are not guaranteed. There's a long way to go yet, but we've made a very solid start.

Have a great weekend,

Year 3
