In English this week we have been looking at persuasive letters and their features. We have made for and against points for the characters in 'Why the Whales came' to keep a bunch of timber washed up on their beach. Glennie class have planned a persuasive letter to the 'preventative' to convince them to allow the islanders to keep the wood. Beethoven class are looking more broadly at persuasive letter and have completed a shared write of a letter to Mrs Heather to convince her to let them wear their pyjamas to school! 

In maths, we moved on to look at our divisions. We have used part-whole models to split the numbers into chunks that are more easily divisible. We have also looked at flexible partitioning, using our times tables knowledge to help us quickly identify if chunks can work or not. 

Geography saw us continue our investigations into coastal erosion. We carried out an experiment using a box of sand to represent the beach and observed the effects of "waves" on the sand. The children were all very engaged and recorded their observations in their books.

We have also continued looking at the work of Vincent Scarpace this week in art. The children have all begun to draw their own fish in Scarpace's style and have produced some beautiful pieces of art.  

In PE the children looked at controlling the ball in hockey and being aware of where people are on the pitch in order to properly control and direct their movements. 

Both classes also did some blue sky thinking, designing machines/ robots which could be used to reduce sea pollution. The children's creativity really shone through and they made some brilliant designs. 

This week we have got really stuck into our play, we've devised the first half and are seeing real progress!

Year four have also asked if we can all bring in any spare tinned foods for their donation to foodbanks for the homeless.
