We have found that many children are finding the tricky 'red' words hard to recall. These are in the front of the reading books and are non-phonetically decodable words. We teach these as captial letter names eg. O-U-R = our. Many children know the words when an adults says the letter names but are struggling to do this independently.
The tricky words to focus upon are: is, the, I, of, to, are, was, all, you, said, like, our, to, no, go.
