In the eyes of God, every child matters, every moment of every day

Friday 2nd October 2020

We’ve had another fantastic week in Thunberg Class and have worked really hard across the curriculum!

In English our Power of Reading text is 'One Day on our Blue Planet, In the Savannah'. This we have taken our learning in a different direction by looking at how Lions search for and hunt their prey. We have watched a really interesting video about a Lion hunting a warthog; have role-played the different parts of the hunt (socially distanced of course!) and built up a word bank and vocabulary mat to help us write our own description of the Lion hunt completely independently. We then shared our writing with the class and Miss Freeman was so proud of how much detail we included and some of the super language we used in our descriptive writing! In Maths this week, we have been counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10, and even challenged ourselves to count in threes! We are now continuing to practise counting forwards and backwards in these steps. Miss Freeman also introduced us to Times Table Rockstars (which you’ll find the login details for in your child’s reading record) and had a little practise of our two times tables as a class. We’ve then moved onto look at subtraction using a part-part whole model – we looked at how we always subtract from the WHOLE and have looked at how we can take away the different parts and we have the same fact family, for example: 8 – 5 = 3 and 8 – 3 = 5, we still have the same three numbers in our fact family, they’ve just swapped places in our number sentence! We also looked at how we can’t take a bigger number away from a smaller number, as we don’t have enough in the first place! In Global learning we are studying Goal 15 Life on Land. This week we have been looking at food chains and linked this well with our Science learning about animals, their habitats and different ecosystems. We’ve really enjoyed looking at the food chain linked with our Power of Reading text, where we used playdough to recreate the sun, grass, a zebra and a lion! In French we have continued to look at the numbers from 11 to 20 – they’re getting super confident! In R.E. we have learnt about the ways in which we can look after our planet (linked with our Global Learning too!). Our PE session on Tuesday was cancelled due to the soggy field, but we had a super fun time playing Football Cricket with Miss Lizelle in P.E!

Arya has loved creating her own food chain with playdough. Carys loved seeing the rest of the school during our assemblies. Alfie has loved writing a shared description of the Lion Hunt, and we are so proud of him! Alex has really enjoyed our Global learning. Sonny has enjoyed writing about the Lion hunt too! James has enjoyed our phonics revision sessions, he’s now an expert at quick write! Hollie has enjoyed learning about snails in our Guided Reading sessions. Sophie has also enjoyed making her own food chain out of playdough. Jasper has enjoyed playing with the playdough! Kyan has loved it too! Jax has enjoyed everything this week! Charlotte has loved our global learning this week, it’s been quite Science-y! Emily-Rose has loved English, Maths and Reading! Ellie-Louise has enjoyed doing everything with a smile on her face. We have welcomed Omar to Team Thunberg this week and he has enjoyed all of our learning too. We are super proud of how busy the children have all been and can’t believe its Friday already!

What a super week, have a fantastic (and hopefully not too soggy,) weekend!
