What a busy week we’ve had in Thunberg Class!

This week’s talk homework is to talk to your adults at home about what a verb is.

This week in English we have been introduced to our new Power of Reading text – but we’ve not been told the title or what the story is about! We’ve seen a page from the story and have made inferences about the text through looking at the clues… The children think it might be something to do with Little Red Riding Hood as it looks as though the story might be set in the woods and there is a Wanted Poster on the wall and people are looking for a Wolf! We have been continued to revise some of the Year 1 high frequency words in our Spelling this week, and practising writing them in lots of fun ways! In Maths this week, we have been looking further into counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10s through pattern making, finger painting and through linking it to multiplication! We’ve also looked at related facts such as if 2 + 3 = 5, then 20 + 30 = 50! We’ve been super missing number problem solvers and some of the children even explored hundred numbers! In Global learning we are studying Goal 15 Life on Land. This week we been looking into endangered species of animals within our locality – firstly we completed a Hedgehog Quiz on Microsoft Teams with our buddies and have even been researching three endangered animals; the skylark, the great crested newt and bats. We’ve found out lots of interesting facts and have even heard a Skylarks bird call! In Art we have looked at shade and tone, light and dark and have been practising shading 3D objects which the children were really good at! The children also did some amazing observational drawings of leaves where we explored shade and tone to create the veins of the leaves. In French we have continued to look at the days of the week and continued to practise our numbers from 1-20, and are even looking to count up to 31! In P.E. this week we explored different ways of jumping, making sure that we landed with bent knees safely. We measured how far we could jump and the children could jump further than me from standing!

Arya has enjoyed drawing leaves in Art this week. Carys has loved doing Maths and English, as well as practising our sounds with playdough. Alfie has loved making a story map of the Little Red Riding Hood story. Alex has enjoyed doing arithmetic this week and is getting good at his 2s, 5s and 10s! Sonny loved practising his shading on his leaf drawing. Omar has enjoyed his Maths learning this week, including finding related facts. James has enjoyed everything this week! Hollie has loved discovering information about our new book this week! Sophie has enjoyed drawing leaves in detail this week. Jasper has loved showing off his artistic skills by drawing leaves and his story map. Kyan has loved our English learning and playing with his friends. Jax has enjoyed everything this week! Charlotte has enjoyed playing with playdough to create her ‘happy place’ and playing with her friends. Emily-Rose has loved practising her phonics and doing her Maths and English learning. Ellie-Louise has enjoyed making a story map this week and drawing the different parts of the Little Red Riding Hood story.

Only one week to go until half term, the children continue to work hard and despite being very tired, they have been very resilient – the skill that we have been looking at across the school!

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe,
Miss Freeman and Thunberg Class
