Week beginning 27th January
Talk about how you made wattle and daub walls.
Week beginning 27th January 2020
We have had such a busy few weeks! We have been practising using our number bonds to 10 and then using that knowledge to help us to add other numbers over the 10 barrier. For example if we were working out 8 + 5 we could take 2 from the 5 (because we know that 8 & 2 make 10). Then we are left one 10 and three 1's which makes 13.
We have loved our book, Claude in the City, in English and had great fun making wanted posters for the robber and then writing newspaper articles of what happened. We were blown away with some of the children's writing and the independence they have shown when writing. We have come a long way since September!
In our global learning we are learning about sustainable cities and how Buckden has changed. Earlier in the month we went to visit Buckden Towers and had a great tour round the grounds. We learnt all about who has lived in the towers and how they were built. We walked into what was the old hall ( now just grass) and learnt about what that would have been built out of and then looked at the Towers and learnt about how they made the bricks and the patterns in the building.
After our visit we made our own bricks out of clay.
To follow this on we have looked at how other people made their houses if they couldn't afford bricks. To do this we went outside and made our own wattle and daub walls using hazel and mud! We had a lot of fun and got very muddy.
