    Blog

The children have completed their first half term in year 3 and all of them have done a fantastic job!  We hope you all have a well-deserved rest and enjoy your half terms.

This week the children have been continuing their work in science looking at different types of rocks and their properties. Some children participated in their first Interhouse competition and represented year 3 superbly. We have also spent some time completing our DT work looking at bookmarks and learning how to cross stitch. All the children persevered brilliantly with this.

Over half term there are no spellings to practise but we do ask that you continue with doodle maths AND doodle tables every day for a minimum of 10 mins. Please also ensure that the children are completing their Doodle assignments. These will appear on their learning zone page as a red icon.

Continue to read everyday and log your reading on BoomReader. (If you are unsure, your Boom reader login is the same as last year.) We are aware parents have been recording the books children have been reading at home and we appreciate this. Teachers will begin to log children’s weekly reading in class on BoomReader after half term so that we can keep you informed of their progress.

Please can we ask that children’s pencil cases are restocked ready for next half term.

    • Leave the car at home and walk or cycle instead
    • Meal plan to reduce food waste
    • Lower your washing machine temperature to 30°C or lower
    • Have a device-free day
    • Turn down the heating by 1° for a week

The children this week were introduced to the 500 word story competition set by the BBC. We will be writing stories next week and sending them home so that the children can enter if they wish to.

In history, we have continued to look at Ancient Greece and started to compare the similarities and differences between the education in the state cities of Sparta and Athens.

During netball we have started to play small games focusing on different passes and our footwork.

Reminders - It is the Harvest Festival in church on Monday. If anyone is able to bring in some non-perishable goods to donate, please send them in with the children on Monday morning.  Also, we are still looking for some parent helpers to come in and listen to the children read.
