Home Learning

Reading:

Please read daily with your child and log on Boom Reader. We will be following up with children who are reading less than three times a week.

Handwriting:

Any opportunity to practise writing your letters using our cursive script at home would greatly help with developing and improving your child’s handwriting. We are focusing on ensuring our small letters are small, our tall letters are tall (and long) and that they are consistent in size.

Maths:

Please practise on Doodle Maths – ten minutes daily will help your child stay in the Green Zone! We will set an assignment for your child to do each Friday, to be completed by the following Friday.

Spellings:

We will be sending home a list of words for your child to practise at home each Tuesday.

Don’t forget to practise this week’s spelling rules over the weekend ready for our quiz on Monday morning!

This week!

Sonny really enjoyed changing his Avatar on his Purple Mash account. If you would like to access Purple Mash from home, please follow this link: https://www.purplemash.com/sch/buckden

Your child’s username is their first name and the first letter of their surname. For example, Miss Freeman would be MissF. The children know their passwords but also know the importance of keeping their password a secret.

Jonah is loving reading Matilda at home with his family – he was excited to tell us that it is a chapter book, written by our Class Author, Roald Dahl! Any opportunities to read at home are fantastic for your child’s reading development, and we love hearing about what you are reading at home so please continue to share this with us.

Dougie has quite liked learning about Habitats and Microhabitats in our Science learning this week. Sunny could tell me that a Microhabitat is a tiny home for Minibeasts inside a larger habitat. Dougie could tell me that an example of a Microhabitat could be a fallen log, soil, a crack in a building or even a can of pop!

Sophie also enjoyed Science as we explored the different plants and animals that live within our local habitat, including the forest area and our school pond! We found a frog, lily pads, algae and we even found mushrooms – we talked about the importance of not picking them as they can be poisonous.

Phoebe has loved that we have finally finished ‘The Last Wolf’ which had a fantastic ending, and she loved creating a map to retell the story. The children then used their story maps to write the story in their own words – Miss Freeman was SO impressed with their stories, and their creativity to tell it in their own way.

Seb, alongside the whole class are loving being in Year 2 and we are continuing to get to know each other and all about ourselves including the things that interest us and the learning that we enjoy!

Please ensure that if you have still got a copy of our class shared reader 'Extreme Earth' that you return it in your child's reading folder on Monday.

Have a lovely weekend.
