Home Learning

Reading:

Please read daily with your child and log on Boom Reader. We will be following up with children who are reading less than three times a week at home. If you would like a paper reading diary to record your reading at home, please let us know and we can provide one for you.

Handwriting:

Any opportunity to practise writing your letters using our cursive script at home would greatly help with developing and improving your child’s handwriting. We are focusing on ensuring our small letters are small, our tall letters are tall (and long) and that they are consistent in size.

Maths:

Please practise on Doodle Maths – ten minutes every day will help your child stay in the Green Zone! We will set an assignment for your child to do each Friday, to be completed by the following Friday.

Spellings:

We will be sending home a list of words for your child to practise at home over the Christmas holidays – these question words are words that we are finding the children are commonly misspelling in their independent writing.

There will not be a quiz style test, but we will be testing their knowledge of these words in our dictation lesson on Monday 6th January.

This week!

Jasper L and George L has enjoyed our DT learning this week, where we explored tabs and different ways of joining two pieces of cardboard together. We put these skills into practice by making our very own prison cells – linking our DT learning with our Global Learning topic all about the Police!

Jude is very excited about Christmas, we have spent today participating in lots of Christmassy activities including having a Christmas buffet today! Jude and lots of the boys and girls enjoyed our Football interhouse on Friday afternoon where the children put their PE learning into practice and worked as a team to win as many games as they could!

Jonah loved making our Christmas cards this week – Dahl and Woodson class were lucky enough to pair up and work together to make their lovely Christmas cards which you will be receiving today! The children were amazing and worked so hard in a workshop style classroom setting, cutting, sticking and writing lovely Christmas messages.

The children have continued to work so hard at the end of a very long Autumn Term – we wish you all a restful break and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year for another term of working hard!

Best wishes,
The Year 2 Team
