Friday 18th September

We have had a very busy first full week back at school!  This blog will be used to post homework reminders, and any other important information you need for the week ahead.

In Year 6, we expect the children to read every day at home for a period of 20 minutes, with at least one of these sessions where they read aloud to an adult.  We monitor their reading by looking at the AR Quizzes they take, and each child has been set an individual points target for this half-term.

The children will have weekly spellings to learn, which will be given on a Monday.  They will bring home an activity sheet to complete at home to help them learn how to spell the words (there is no expectation to return this to school).  They will be quizzed on these words the following Monday.  This week's words are:  rhyme, identify, multiply, occupy, apply, hyphen, recycle, hygiene, python, supply.

The children will bring home login information for both Doodle Maths and SATs Companion.  They will be familiar with using Doodle Maths in Year 5, and this week we are asking them to login at home and complete their baseline assessment.  SATs Companion is an online platform which we use in Year 6 to set homework.  The children will be set 2 English and 2 Maths tasks each week.  These will be set on a Friday and due the following Friday.  Should the children have difficulty or need support with homework, please encourage them to come and speak to us themselves (ideally prior to the homework deadline) and we can offer support where necessary – this is all part of encouraging them to take responsibility for their learning in preparation for secondary school.

Further information about Year 6 will follow next week in our class newsletter.

We hope you enjoy a lovely weekend.
