Dear Kenny class,

Hello everyone!  We hope that you are all doing alright and managed to access everything.

We would love you to continue your journal  to capture what you are doing at home during this time. Just to reiterate the journal could be some kind of notebook or a scrap book or even stapled paper is fine.

In your journal you write:

1. How you are feeling
2. What you have done. This can be any of the work you have done from the blog and anything that you have done whilst at home.
3. What you have enjoyed each day.

We can’t wait to see your journals!

To assist with your phonics work at home, we will attach to the blog the caption actions for each sound and digraph along with the sparkle mark sentences which will help you to remind your child how to form each letter in writing.

This is a suggestion of how much learning to do over a day with a reception child. Aim for a maximum of 2 hours focused learning interspersed with play based learning and physical activity.  Of course what is important is that you do what works best with your family. The work listed below is more than enough for 5 days of learning so choose the tasks that you would prefer to do.

am 30 min	Sports/ physical activity- Joe Wicks as a suggestion
am 20 min	Maths activity – recognise, create and describing patterns.
am 20 min	Fine Motor control activity- like lego, puzzle, drawing, writing, cutting.
10:30	Snack time- can you help prepare it?
am 2 x 20 min	Reading/ Sharing a story/ Phonics online game- see ideas below Focus on sp , nd, nk, mp – (these all appear at the end of words)
12:30	Lunchtime
pm 1 hour or longer if you are having fun!	An activity from the ideas below and/or independent learning through play time where your child makes choices.
Pm 20 min	Complete your journal for the day- draw and or write

 

Weather

Idea 1

Use a plastic bottle to create a rain catcher and then measure each day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Idea 2

Watch and read a range of weather reports. Recreate a news weather report with that day’s weather. Look outside and discuss. You could create your own weather wheel or chart. Maybe you could make weather symbols to add to a map and record you on a device delivering your report? Try and use geographic vocabulary like names of countries, cities, area, coastal, inland.

Idea 5

If we get a windy day, use a streamer (ribbon, piece of string or wool) to go out and explore the direction of the wind.

 

Idea 6

Record and discuss the temperatures of each of the days, can they tell you one more and one less? Was there a temperature that was the same on any of the days?    

 

Idea 7

Using items from around your house/ in your garden. Create sensory weather bottles.

Idea 8

Go out for a walk in each of the weather and use each of your senses to describe it, is what you hear on a sunny day different to a rainy day, or a windy day etc? how do things feel? Are there any differences to what you can smell? Write these down in your journal.

 

Idea 9

Draw a picture of your favourite weather and write a sentence about why you like it. Or what you like doing in it. i.e jumping in muddy puddles (rain) or riding your bike (sunny).

Pine Cone Weather Forecast                      

The Science Behind the Experiment – A Guide for Adults

Pine cones open and close to help seed dispersal. When the weather is dry, the pine cones open and the wind carries the light seeds from inside the pine cone to destinations away from the original tree. When the weather is humid or wet, pine cones close to protect the seeds as they would not travel very far in wet weather.

Idea 11

Fold an A4 piece of paper in to 4 then use different media i.e paints, collage, colouring pencils and stickers. Create a picture showing 4 weathers, different media for each weather.

 

Idea 12

Call/ video message friends and relatives from around the country and even the worlds and chat about what the weather is like where they are? Can you find them on the globe/map/atlas?

 

Idea 13

Explore shadows. Can you make shadow puppets? If you join bits of nature like sticks and leaves maybe you could make a shadow puppet.

How does the shadow change as the sun moves? Maybe you could make a sundial?

 

Idea 14

Search for patterns everywhere! Socks, pants, wallpaper, flower beds, beats in music, dances. Can you predict what would come next? Is there patterns in the weather across the year?
