It's been a busy week in Year 5. Pupils have been finishing their PIXL papers and learning about money in Maths. Encouraging the children at home to pay with cash and to calculate their change and total purchase in pence and pounds will help support them in developing this core mathematical lifeskill. In English, they've been developing their characters and plotlines for their 500-word stories. We will be photocopying their stories to come home next week so please look out for them as pupils, with your help, will be able to submit them to the BBC's 500-word story competition over half-term.

In PSHE, we've been learning different ways to cope with conflict and how breaking down stereotypes is important to combat racism and ignorant judgements against different cultures, genders, nationalities and religions. The pupils have been brilliant and show that equality and inclusivity for all is really important to them.

We tried to connect with a Headteacher and her Year 2 class in Kenya on Wednesday, which was really exciting, to support our Global Learning about equal access to education, but due to connection difficulties in the Kenyan school it wasn't possible. We're really hopeful to try again soon. Today we also had a visitor to speak to students about the impact of climate change on our oceans and careers that can help protect our planet, which links wonderfully with our upcoming learning in Spring term.
