  • Friday 19th September

We have had a very busy first full week in school this week!  Please find information below linked to homework expectations in Year 6.

    SATs Companion

In Year 6, weekly homework will be set on an online platform called SATs Companion.  Your child will have brought home a letter with details about this.  Homework (2 Maths tasks and 2 English tasks) will be set each Tuesday and is due the following Tuesday.  Between now and next Tuesday 23rd September, please help your child to log into this platform and explore the website.  There will be no tasks set until the 23rd.

    Doodle Maths

Your child is encouraged to continue with Doodle Maths in Year 6, and ideally they will spend 10 minutes 5 times a week on Maths tasks they feel they can improve on.  This week, please can your child log in and complete their baseline assessment at home.

    Reading

The children are expected to read regularly at home (20 minutes every day) and their reading progress will be measured when they take quizzes on books they have read on a platform called Renaissance (Accelerated Reader - AR).  Your child will have brought home a letter containing details of how to set up email alerts so you are aware of when they have taken a quiz.

    Spellings

Spellings will continue to be set in Year 6, and homework sheets to practice these spellings will be given to the children each Monday.  The children are asked to complete these sheets to help them learn their spellings but there is no requirement for sheets to be brought back into school.  We will also list the weekly spellings on the blog each Friday.  The spelling words for this week are:  apply, occupy, hygiene, hyphen, identify, multiply, python, recycle, rhyme, supply.

    3 Minute Talks

This year every child will be invitied to do a 3 minute talk to the rest of their class on a topic of their choice.  Children can bring in items to talk about or prepare a powerpoint presentation which can be sent via email to their teacher.  Please see a timetable of when the children will be invited to do their talk.

Bikeability - Forms were sent home earlier this week.  Please ensure that these have been returned to school if your child wishes to take part.

    Have a great weekend!
