    Mr Palmer and I are missing you all and hope you are staying busy, safe and having fun. Below is a list of tasks and activities for you to try over the next week of home schooling. Please also refer to the email previously received from Miss Anderson about how best to organise your day and make sure that fun and contentment is at the heart of your days.

    Kenny Class Home Learning Tasks

    Phonics

    Reading CCVC (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant) words with tr, tw and cl words.  Phase 3 digraphs and trigraphs with consonant cluster beginnings eg. train or clown. Focus on the sounds ear, ure, air, igh. You can get access to some age appropriate reading books here.

    Writing simple sentences- Write on the topic;  My best day ever… Children use their phonic skills to sound out. Can either write themselves or adult can scribe for them if letter formation is limiting their success. It can be made up or a real life memory.

    Literacy

    Choose a favourite story from home use it to do the following tasks

    Write a speech bubble for a character

    Retell the story- you could act it out

    Draw your favourite part of the story and write words or a sentence about it

    Do a book review- how many stars would you give it? What makes it a good story? Who should read it?

    We have done all of the above activities in school in the past so children should be familiar with the ideas.

    Maths

    Practise the names and properties of shapes begin by looking at 2D shapes. Include some irregular shapes pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, trapezium, rhombus. Be sure to use the correct mathematical name. Then look at 3d shapes, make cubes and use them as dice. Build towers with other 3d shapes. Can they name them? Look through your kitchen cupboard- can you sort the shapes of grocery items into sets.

    Additionally, this has daily maths lessons linked to lovely story books. If you don’t have the books I have tried google videos and most are online to watch.

    PSHE

    Mind Up- What does it mean to be Kind? How does doing a good thing make you feel? Can you do a ‘random act of kindness’ for a family member. Mind Up parent support material can be found at https://mindup.org/families/

     

    Read together A good way to explain the current virus situation to your children.

    Science

    Explore shadows. Can you use items from the garden or home to make a shadow puppet?

    Art and design

    Can you design and make (if you have the items) a vehicle for your superhero. It could be a car, hovercraft, plane or any other mode of transport.

    Music/ Dance

    Play ‘I need a hero’ by Bonnie Tyler- can your child remember any of the dance we began in school and can they make up some more.

    RE

    How do we celebrate Easter? Watch the video links below. Ring family and friends and ask them about their traditions. Can you make an Easter decoration to make your home festive?

    French

    Colours in French- sing ‘I can sing a rainbow’ in French. Play eye spy with the French colour names. Sing the songs; Frere Jacques, Head – shoulders - knees and toes (tete – épaules – genoux – pied) and alouette.

    Understanding the World

    On your daily walk search for signs of Spring. Discuss seasonal changes.

    PD

    Handwriting- letter formation of in cursive script. Using scissors. Construction kits, colouring or puzzles for fine motor control. Gymnastics- explore different ways of moving; walking, running, crawling, rolls, jumps and balancing. Try Joe Wicks live feed at 9am every morning on Body Coach youtube channel.

    Buckden’s BINGO Challenge Sheet

    There are lots of different challenges on this sheet, you can pick from these over the week. Every time you do one, colour it in, just like Bingo can you make a line or even a full house. (Parents you can use this to help motivate your child and give them a reward for getting a line or full house.)

     

    Get Active!

    Join Joe Wick’s PE session on you tube for 30 minutes.

    Play Soduku.

    You can either play one online or print one out.

     

    Book Design-

    Look at the front cover of your reading book. Create a new front cover. What would you change? What is missing? What makes a good front cover?

     

    KIMS Game –

    Play KIMS game with someone in your house – get a few items and put them on the table. Spend up to 1 minute remembering them, now cover them up and one person takes something away. Can they guess what has been taken?

     

    Daily Reading-

    Read a book every day to an adult for 20 minutes a day.

    Exploring-

    Go on a walk and spot the rainbows or other designs in people’s windows.

    Thinking outside the Box!

    What could you do with …

    an unsharpened pencil?

    You need to design something (anything) using an unsharpened pencil. You can add any additional materials in your creation.

    Indoor Scavenger Hunt –

     find different things around your home which is; blue, red, yellow, green, orange, black and purple. Take a photo of what you find.

     

     

    Play ’10 Second Rule’ with someone.

    One person gives a topic and the other person has 10 seconds to name 3 things connected. E.g. Colours -  red, blue, green.

    Garden Scavenger Hunt

    -Can you find…..

    10 blades of grass

    5 leaves that look different

    5 objects that are different shades of green

    A flat stone

    A stick that is longer than your hand

    Junk Creation!

    Raid your recycling bin and see what different 3D shapes you can find.

    Can you make a model using only these materials?

    Buckden Buddies-

    Can you design a poster to advertise what is great about our Buckden Buddies? Ie, The chance to make new friends/talk to other pupils/ get to know another adult in school/do fun stuff. Bring these back to school to display in our classrooms!
