    Dear Kenny class,

Hope you all had a fantastic week especially watching the videos. Hopefully you will have the opportunity to watch the videos that have been put up a long with this week’s plan. There are Maths and Phonics videos to help guide you through the week. The videos won’t be long and might need to be paused at certain times while you are asked to do something. The work you produce this week can be emailed to EYFS@buckdenacademy.org.

This is a suggestion of how much learning to do over a day with a reception child. Aim for a maximum of 2 hours focused learning interspersed with play based learning and physical activity.  Of course what is important is that you do what works best with your family. The work listed below is more than enough for 5 days of learning so choose the tasks that you would prefer to do.

    am 30 min

Sports/ physical activity- try Boogie Beebies for a change if you like or cosmic yoga

    am 20 min

Maths activity – Odds and Evens.

    am 20 min

Fine Motor control activity- like lego, puzzle, drawing, writing, cutting.

    10:30

Snack time- can you help prepare it?

    am 2 x 20 min

Reading/ Sharing a story/ Phonics online game- see ideas below

Focus on Phase 3 – embed the learning – ‘X’,’Y’,’Z’

    12:30

    Lunchtime

pm 1 hour or longer if you are having fun!

An activity from the ideas below and/or independent learning through play time where your child makes choices.

    Pm 20 min

Complete your journal for the day- draw and or write

    Maths

    Odds and Evens -

    • Split items into two equal piles (as with last week) if you can label these as even, if you can’t label these as odds.
    • Create your own ten frame (a rectangle made up of 10 boxes – see attached) Use this to create odd and even numbers, can you work out which numbers are odd and which are even? Can you write them down?
    • What is the trick to knowing if a number is odd or even? Practise sharing quantities of items up to twenty and focus on looking at the written numbers. (i.e ends in 0,2,4,6 or 8 – but keep this secret)
    • Build quantities of numbers using blocks i.e lego, put them in a feely bag, can you work out what the numbers are and if they are odd or even.
    • Go for a walk around near your house, look at house numbers what do you notice about odds and evens.
    • Watch this video of Numberblocks - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3uxBI9npas
    • Listen to this song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1EGRUXmNdY

Phonics- Recap phase 3 – make sure it is stuck in! Conitnue with ‘x,’ ‘y,’ ‘z’

    • House hunt - find objects in your house or garden, that start with the sound.
    • Treasure or trash – write some words on pieces of paper, or using objects children decide whether the word starts with one of our sounds (treasure) – put these words in a ‘special box’ and if it isn’t treasure then its trash – put these words in the ‘bin.’ Alternatively, use https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/BuriedTreasure2.html
    • Sound detectives – Read through your favourite story books, find the sound, and talk about where it appears in the words.
    • Word builder – using letters/sounds written on Lego blocks and joined together.
    • Think of any words that have the sounds in and join together to make some silly sentences.
    • Use a timer, how many times can you write the sound in 1 minute. Or repeat but writing of words containing our sounds.
    • Pirate ship game – write the letters up and attach them to walls (one sound per wall) say a word and they have to run to the correct sound.
    • Fashion 3 spaces near each other and label each with a sound, kick a ball or throw an item into the box and say the sound that it corresponds.

    Goal 12Responsible Consumption

    Idea 1

Make an Eco-Block (see attached document)

    Idea 2
Keep a food diary for a week, write down what you eat and how many.

    Idea 3
Look for the same item in different shops. Can you work out which is cheaper? Can you find the ‘Organic’ and ‘Free Range’ food? Discuss what the difference is.

    Idea 4
Learn some food names in French.
    Here’s a song to help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJ03KjwiIVM

    Idea 5
Plant/ grow your own food (cress is a very quick one) draw a picture of what you see happening. If you have already planted your own food draw the progress of that instead. Write a sentence under each picture describing it.

    Idea 6
Research and draw the journey of food from farm to plate, then from plate to rubbish tip.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf74rrn1uLk – carrots farm to fork
Have a look at this website - https://friendsoftheearth.uk/food-waste

    Idea 7
Look at the items in your cupboard, can you sort them into what has been grown and what hasn’t?

    I

    Idea 8
After you have eaten some eggs, paint the egg shells different colours and smash them up, then use them to create a mosaic.

    Idea 9
Create a compost bin to put waste food and turn it into fertiliser
    https://www.diyncrafts.com/33618/home/gardening/35-cheap-easy-diy-compost-bins-can-build-weekend
Some of these are not appropriate but there are cardboard boxes and others that are feasible.

    Idea 10
Make a poster to tell everybody how important it is to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. When you have made the poster display it in your window to remind everybody about your important message.
