Talk homework:
A great week in Year 1 this week!
In Maths we started a new unit: Numbers 1-50. We have been focussing on finding the tens and ones in 2 digit numbers and have been using diene sticks to represent 10s and cubes to represent 1s. We have been filling in number lines with missing numbers and know that we have to check whether it is counting on or back.
In English this week we read a new book called The River, an epic journey to the sea. This fits in perfectly with our Global Learning question this term which is 'Can I travel from Buckden to the sea?'. The children have enjoyed role playing, choosing their favourite part of the story and then creating a story board. Mrs Sandham and Mrs Butcher were impressed with the quality of writing produced on these!
In Science we have been learning how to group animals based on their bodies, and then based on what they eat. We know their are 3 groups: Carnivores, Herbivores and Omnivores. After learning this we had a great messy lesson where we investigated 'animal poo!' we found that a carnivores poo would contain bones and fur, whereas a herbivores poo might contain fruit, seeds and other plant material. Omnivores would be a bit of both.
We are all looking forward to our Year 1 trip next week to Paxton Pits, where we will continue learning above the River Ouse and some of the animals that live in and nearby it.
