Last week for a little while! See here for home learning ideas.

Dear year ones, we hope you have had a lovely week. We really enjoyed creating your river books and have been amazed at the finished results. The tie dyeing was so much fun!!

While you are at home there is plenty of things you can be doing to help your learning. Next week you task is to try and do a little bit of school work every day. You should also be reading every day. We will be putting some ideas for tasks to do at home on the bog every week.

Here are some ideas that you can be getting on with and websites that could be useful.

    Reading

Read, read, read!! Find anything to read, magazines, recipes, books. Also read together, have fun and enjoy some stories. Talk about the stories, predict what will happen next, why a character did something and how the characters feel and why. You can also do this with TV programmes and films.

The website below is offering free ebooks that you can find at their colour book band

    Phonics

Lots of games on here that are currently free. Many children are very good at spotting individual sounds but don’t spot them in words or use them in their writing so games that involve reading words and sound buttoning (the children can explain this) them will all support both their reading and writing

    Watch alphablocks

Watch Geraldine the giraffe on YouTube to support your child’s learning of their phonics sounds. The link below is an example but you can search for all the phonemes.

    Writing

Encourage writing, maybe they could write letters or cards to friends and relative they won’t be seeing for a while. Encourage good cursive handwriting. Fine motor skills will also support their handwriting so lots of manipulating small objects and strengthening muscles (fine and gross). Colouring, lego, play doh, sewing, hamma beads, digging in the mud, trampolines, climbing frames etc.

Phonics sound mats are being sent home in an exercise book to support children’s writing. Any sounds highlighted are ones that your child may not be secure in yet.

    Maths

Abacus. The children’s usernames and passwords are stuck in their reading records.

Numbots. The children’s usernames and passwords are stuck in their reading records. (if you haven't been in school and have not recieved you username and password please emial the school and we can provide you with it)
