Home Learning
Reading:
Please read daily with your child and log on Boom Reader. We will be following up with children who are reading less than three times a week at parents evening, with the option to have a reading diary instead if Boom Reader is not working for you.
Handwriting:
Any opportunity to practise writing your letters using our cursive script at home would greatly help with developing and improving your child’s handwriting. We are focusing on ensuring our small letters are small, our tall letters are tall (and long) and that they are consistent in size and spacing.
Maths:
Please practise on Doodle Maths – ten minutes daily will help your child stay in the Green Zone! We will set an assignment for your child to do each Friday, to be completed by the following Friday.
Spellings:
We will be sending home a list of words for your child to practise at home each Tuesday.
There are no spellings this week – we feel that the children have worked so hard and deserve a break over the half term.
This week!
Ruby has enjoyed doing her spellings this week and particularly enjoyed writing her 500 word story! Your child will be coming home with their 500 word story today, if you would like to enter the competition, please follow the instructions on this weeks Newsletter. We hope that we have some winning entries!
Phoebe loved winning our Mammoth Mathematician this week as Dahl Class won the Top Doodler Award this week! We hope to continue our streak after half term so please keep Doodling!
Charlie has enjoyed writing his 500 word story and really liked practising our tricky Year 2 Common Exception Words. If you would like a list of these for home, please let us know!
Grace has enjoyed Science this week. We played a game where we had to guess which animal did not belong in a selection of habitats. The children then went and designed their own habitats and played their own games of ‘Odd one out!’.
School Play – The Wind in the Willows
You will receive an email later today with details of our school play, as well as costume ideas for the children to bring in next half term. If you have any questions, please contact the Year 2 on year2@bpa.act-academytrust.org.
The Eco-team have two exciting missions, and your superpowers are needed—starting with our first challenge: Cut the Carbon! and with our Bin-tastic Challenge!
Cut the Carbon!
This November, we’re on a mission to shrink our carbon footprints and make a real impact. Each week, our Eco-Warriors will be tracking progress and cheering you on. There are six suggestions to help us cut carbon:

Bin-tastic Challenge!
Our playground bins are ready for a makeover—and we want YOUR brilliant ideas! The Eco Team is calling on all creative minds to design a brand-new bin that’s fun, functional, and fabulous.
🎨 Your Mission: Grab an A4 sheet of paper and sketch your dream bin design. Think bold colours, cool shapes, and eco-friendly features. Could it talk? Could it sort recycling? Could it look like a robot or a tree?
🌱 The Eco Team will review all the designs and choose the most awesome one to inspire our new playground bins! Deadline Friday 7th November.
Thank you for all of your hard work and support over the first half term, we look forward to meeting lots of you properly after half term during our Autumn Parents Evening.
Have a lovely half term and a restful break!
Best wishes,
The Year 2 Team
